“Name Him Hussain!” – Story of Anti-ISIS Hero Hussain Hammoud, the Martyr of Arbaeen

The world is in need of real role models, therefore it is our duty to tell the stories of many real life heroes whom God has given us as guiding stars.

We are honored to present an English-language narrative, biography, and the final will of Martyr Hussain Hammoud.

The story of this inspirational Lebanese martyr who sacrificed his life for the sake of God, for the sake of the holy shrines of the Prophet Muhammad’s (S) pure family, and for the safety and sanctity of the innocent people of the world threatened by the Mossad/CIA proxy army known as ISIS, begins with a personal story which did not happen by chance, but by divine arrangement.

Narrative of the Martyr’s Life: A friend on a pilgrimage to Iran; Things that must be said about an exceptional heroine

The beginning of the year 2023 was exceptional for me. I will not dwell on the words, as Imam Al-Reza (as) called me to his blessed shrine. However, I am not here to talk about that blessed trip, but rather about a sixty-year-old friend, who was a source of blessings within this already blessed trip.

Our first meeting was at Beirut Airport. I did not know her and she did not know me either. She started kissing and embracing me as if I were her own daughter; a beautiful and modest woman, holding a picture of her son, Hussain Kamal Hammoud (Radwan).

Walaa Hammoud, the mother of a noble martyr

While her son was born on 20 February 1995 just like any other human is born, how he left this life was not like how most humans leave this life, as he attained the lofty and fragrant position of martyrdom in Az-Zabadani, Syria on 30 November 2015.

This noble woman was Walaa Ibrahim Hammoud, the well-known Lebanese poet & novelist, who had devoted most of her life to serving the resistance literature and media since its inception in the eighties.

It was me, our friends, and Hajjah Walaa, and with us was Martyr Hussain, not with his picture but rather with his exceptional stories she narrated. He is the cub of his lioness mother, he carried her thought, love, sincerity, and humility, so he won that medal of Honour: martyrdom. Naturally, as martyrs are alive, he was indeed a guest among our group.

She came to Iran to tell his story, to talk about him, and not to talk about her own achievements, despite being a great literary and media figure, who gave a lot, sacrificed a lot without expecting gains or in return.

In the 1990s, at a party honoring the resistance media figures, Hajjah Walaa wished that Martyr Hussain would be with her, as she would love to accompany him in such gatherings. She contented herself with pulling out his picture and recited poetic verses for Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, telling him that he (Hussain) is a dedication for him and for the resistance. At that time, Sayyed Nasrallah smiled, indicating that the child in that picture (i.e., Hussain) was still young, as he was not more than six years old at that time. Then Sayyed Nasrallah commented, “Martyrdom does not know a specific age.”

Martyr Hussain as a child

Before his birth, Imam al-Hussain (as) told Hajja Walaa that she would have a baby asking her to name him “Hussain.” Remarkably, Martyr Hussain born on the night of the martyrdom of Imam Ali (as), in a small old apartment in one of poorest suburbs of Beirut.

Hajjah Walaa worked hard to insert the lofty Islamic values in Martyr Hussain. He grew up reading her revolutionary stories and poems. He was – at the same time – gentle, kind, cooperative, as well as serious, resolute, and with unbreakable pride before he joined the resistance bandwagon, where he proved to be a shrewd planner and a courageous fighter. His interests multiplied, as he become a technician, a distinguished football player, a karate fighter, & a scout leader.

Before his martyrdom, Martyr Hussain – in the play “Dawy Ya Najma” (i.e. Shine O Star) – brilliantly played the role of Al-Qasim bin Al-Hassan (as).

Martyr Hussain participated in dozens of battles. He also recorded a beautiful song entitled “Reach My Salam to the Shrine of Al-Hawraa” before his martyrdom. Martyr Hussain was the last to withdraw from the points of confrontation; his heart never beat with fear despite his young age and the brutality of the takfiris known as ISIS, a proxy creation of the inhuman Zionist and American regimes sent to try and weaken the resistance front and bog it down with internal wars.

In one of the battles, well-known Martyr Alaa al-Bosna asked for a commando to get rid of a tank that was targeting the mujahideen. Martyr Hussain carried out the mission which ended up taking him 3 days – with his comrades – before he was able to target it and return safely.

Just before his martyrdom, the heroic martyr led a fierce battle against the takfiris. He prepared the missile and as soon as he reached out to launch it, his green eyes widened as he looked at the sky, yelling, “Ya Zainab!” A huge explosion was heard, and then when its dust cleared, Hussein had obtained what he wished for. Under the “Az-Zabadani” moon, the chrysanthemum of sacrifice that drank from his honourable blood sprouted.

“The boots that he was martyred in still have droplets of blood on them. Whatever beautiful lines of poetry he had composed in his life time, due to the teachings of his equally poetic mother, the most beautiful lines of poetry he ever wrote are that which he wrote on these boots through the ink of his blood.” – Ali Salaam, editor-in-chief of Basira Press, recalling his experience visiting the humble home of the honorable Walaa Hammoud

A Short Biography of Hussain Kamal “Radwan” Hammoud

Martyr Hussain Kamal Hammoud, known as the Martyr of Arbaeen.

Before his birth, Imam Hussain (as) told his mother – in a dream – that she would have a boy. The Imam asked her to name him like him (Hussain).

Hussain was born in one of the poorest suburbs of Beirut, on 20 February 1995, yet his household was filled with the richest of hearts and souls.

He was brought up in a religious and educated family.

His parents were keen on teaching him Islamic values and loyalty to the Islamic Revolution.

When he was 6 years old, while honoring his mother in a special tribute to the resistance media personnel, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah saw his picture wearing a military uniform. The mother told him that her son want to attain the lofty position of martyrdom. Sayyed Nasrallah said to her, “Martyrdom does not has a specific age.”

He joined Imam Al-Mahdi Scouts and yet at an early age, he became a scout leader.

Before his martyrdom, he played the role of “Al-Qasim bin Al-Hassan” in the Karbala tragedy reenactment play.

Likewise, he sang a nasheed dedicated to defending the shrine of Sayyida Zainab (pbuh), and the title of the nasheed is: “Give my regards to the shrine of Al-Hawraa.”

He was decent and generous, keen on preserving the noble values of hijab and chastity.

He was a professional athlete, winning many championships.

He had high morals and was known for his pleasant character traits.

He did not continue his high school as he wanted to go to the front and become a martyr, which is a rank of enlightenment that cannot be measured by worldly certificates like diplomas and which few achieve.

He was very brave and had ideal masculine traits of a pious man. In a world filled with extremes of men who are either too weak or men who are tyrannical and abusive, Hussain represents a true divine balance of a saintly man and thus is a true role model for young men.

The well-known martyr “Alaa Al-Bosna” chose him to perform a special mission against the Mossad/CIA-backed ISIS terrorists, and Hussain performed it with sincerity and devotion.

He was martyred in Az-Zabadani on 30 November 2015 on the day of Arbaeen, which is the holy mourning day marking 40 days since the martyrdom of Imam Hussain on Ashura. He sacrificed his life for the principles of divine justice which have made Ashura reverberate throughout history and in all corners of the earth.

The Final Will and Testament of Martyr Hussain Hammoud

In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful.

Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, destroyer of the mighty, destroyer of the oppressors.

And prayers and peace be upon the most honorable of creation, the dearest of the messengers, Muhammad bin Abdullah, and upon his good and pure family and his chosen companions.
Peace be upon the Mujahideen from the time of Adam until the Day of Resurrection. Peace be upon our divine scholars, who have struggled to exalt the word of God, and to revive the remembrance of Ahlul Bayt (AS).

Peace be upon the front-runner of the Islamic Revolution, the revolution of the authentic Muhammadan Islam, Imam Sayyed Ruhollah al-Mousawi al-Hussaini Khomeini (R), and his righteous deputy, Imam Sayyed Ali Khamenei al-Hussaini.

Peace be upon the Imam of our time, may our souls be sacrificed for him. Oh Allah, hasten his reappearance, and make us among his followers and aides, and martyrs in his army. Peace be upon the souls of the martyrs, especially the martyrs of our victorious Islamic resistance, the former and the later ones. Congratulations for their immortality in heavens.

My beloved parents, peace from God be upon you, a salutation of adherence and love to your hearts.
My dearest loved ones, I have chosen to go against the norm in addressing you both and not separately, because I have recognized – since my childhood – that you are both of one opinion and one position in the face of difficulties. One heart surrounded us with the same kindness, the same tenderness, and one will to obey God, and be patient in His decree. From you both, I have learned all of these values. And in the shadow of your love, I have grown up loving my Lord, believing in Him (Glory be to Him), loyal to His Messenger and His Household (peace be upon them).

With both of you, I have realized the value of life in the light of this faith. From both of you, I have become certain that God, His angels, His messengers, and the House of His Seal of Prophets will not be satisfied with me until I sacrifice this life as a ransom for their message, a message of building a human being who lives for Allah, and that they will not be satisfied with me, nor accept my love, until I strive on the path of truth that is clear and luminous in the way of Allah (glory be to Him), who prefer the Mujahedeen in grades above those who sit at home. Hence, my decision has been to embark on the journey of jihad until victory, and steadfastness until martyrdom.

Your blessing for my step has been associated with reviving the long nights by praying for victory for me & my brothers, and for a safe return for all of us. So, as you have always been before me together, I thank you both for everything you have done for me. I thank you for the wonderful care, the noble upbringing, the overflowing affection, the nobility of purpose, the clarity of vision regarding my religion and belief and the honor of the path on which you have sent me to, and on which you have together led my steps.
I do not think that I need to ask you to forgive me for a reckless behavior that has already occurred, or for spontaneous acts. In my eyes, you are all love, you are my parents, my family, my mother and my father. The heart of a mother or father has never grudge against their children. You are – in my opinion – the best who understand the child in me, and the human in my depths. I trust that you will forgive me for my faults, before and after I commit them.

If this context is for gratitude & appreciation, then, I thank you with all my heart, and I cherish you both before Allah and the people. Further, I ask Him (the Glorious) to reward you on my behalf with good deeds, and for bad deeds pardon & forgiveness. And I ask Him for a decent & fragrant end for you, under the shade of His satisfaction. I ask you not to forget me in your prayers, esp in your night prayers & your good deeds.

My beloved parents, remember me at all times, and make me a share of your sincere prayers or your fasts. Remember me always, for I – and God bears witness – love you both, as no one loved another. I love you, and I know that you love me as my siblings and as the rest of God’s creation. I send you kisses in the hope of meeting you in Allah’s heavens. Until then, may God take care of you and protect you with His eyes that never sleep. He is All-Hearing & All-Responsive.

My dear brother Hassan, may Allah’s peace be upon you. I do not think you need an advice from me. I knew you, by the grace of Allah, as a fighter, fasting and praying, and what our parents have raised us to do. I have known you as a kind, compassionate, and loving brother. I have known you as my wing that I fly with, rather fly by to the world of jihad & martyrdom. That is why I thank you in the same manner that I thank my parents. I ask you to be kind with them. This is Allah commanded us to do; I do not think that in this life there is a person who is more deserving of benevolence than the parents, O Hassan. I wish you all the best.

My beloved brother, may Allah make you happy in your life, and grant you success. Do not forget to immortalize the name of Imam Hussain (PBUH) by naming one of your children after his name, God willing. Do not forget to kiss them on my behalf when they come to life successively, God willing. Do not forget to lead them to the line of jihad as you and their uncle have grown up. Do not forget to pray for me, and to allocate me some desirable deeds such as fasting and prayer. Greetings to your virtuous wife. And do not forget to take care of your two sisters, Hawra & Zahraa. May Allah shelter you, my brother, and protect you every now and then. He is the best keeper & the best appointed.

My beloved Hawra, my dear sister, I deeply thank you, after thanking Allah, for the joyful birth of “Ali,” may He protect him for you. O sister, I only ask you to take care of him and his siblings. Raise them as our parents have done for us, to love our religion, to be loyal followers of Ahlul Bayt. Bring them up with loving [what is good] for the sake of God and hating [what is wicked] for the sake of God. May Allah bless you, my love. Ali [your son / my nephew] has a promising matter, so take care of him, and help him to always remember me. Keep me in the depths of your & his memory. I, continually, remember your love, affection, and wonderful care. May Allah protect you, and grant you success, dear sister. My love, prayers & kisses go for you, Ali, his brothers, and your husband. I know you will not neglect to pray for me. May Allah grant you success, my dearest sister & friend.

Zahraa, my dear sister, my beloved angel, how much I fatigued you with me on the path to the school – O companion of the path of the sweetest years of life – I am certain that you will laugh on those memories, and that you will wipe away the tear that will burst against your will. I know you as a brave believer. I am sure you will be patient. I rely on you, after Allah, to be by our parents’ side, because you will be closer to them – in time and place – than Hawra and Hassan. You will forgive me – without asking me – right? Dear Zahraa, you also do not need an advice from me. I know your awareness and your ability to absorb things. Your face, along the faces of my family, has been staring at me during the battles, and make me stronger and braver, so that I could return to all of you as a hero, in whom you are get proud. Dear Zahraa, what a wonderful gift from my mother and father you are. May Allah grant you success and protect you. I leave you under His protection (Glory be to Him) and His care. I ask you all the best, happiness and joy. Do not forget me in your prayers. Sister, once again, do not forget me, I swear that Allah and His angels will not discard your supplication, for His doors are open to the seekers. Always ask mercy for me, O pure of heart and origin. Kisses to you all, with the hope of meeting in the paradise that has come closer to the righteous.

To all my relatives, my grandfather and my grandmother, I wish you a long life with everlasting health and wellness. I ask you, my uncles Abu Ahmed & Abu Sadiq, my aunts and their children, to pray for me & forgive any shortcoming I have committed. I pray to God for you with all goodness, and He answers your prayers.

Finally, my Mujahideen brothers, brothers of struggle and arms, the current stage requires greater awareness because of the dangers & horrors that surround our nation. Yes, what the West wants, along with the US & the Zionist enemy, is to extinguish the light of Allah. This light is manifested in the approach of Muhammad and Ahlul Bayt.

Nonetheless Allah will fill you with His light, even if the Takfiris & those behind them hate it. You have to continue the path until you reach one of the two good deeds, victory or martyrdom, or both – God willing – and that is our ultimate goal.

We must be confident that we have not go out out of covetousness or arrogance, but rather to reform our nation, the nation of the Messenger of Allah, his guardian, and the two Imams, Al-Hassan & Al-Hussain. We – in the footsteps of the Prophet Muhammad – fight the polytheists. In the footsteps of Imam Ali, we face those who turned on their heels. In the footsteps of the two Imams, we fight takfir (excommunication without justifiable reason in order to justify bloodshed and plunder), atheism, and corruption that have afflicted Islam. You are the best of brothers. You are the best loved ones of the Messenger of Allah & the best companions of Imam Al-Hussain. Do not hesitate. Do not fail to support Imam Al-Hussain, Prophet Muhammad & Imam Ali, to preserve the legacy of Sayyeda al-Zahra & al-Hawraa (peace be upon them).

Do not fear the blame of the blamer. Do not panic, even if all the global scoundrels and wolves rally against you. Do not be dismayed because of your small number & do not be intimidated by their large number as how many times has a small group defeated a large group. Hold tight to the Qur’an, the Book of Allah, and to the guardianship of Prophet Muhammad & Ahlul Bayt, for they are the two weighty things that whoever adheres to them will never go astray.

Do not abandon the wise leadership of Hezbollah, because it is an extension of the line of prophecy and the true Imamate. They are the victors, as the heavenly books and the messengers have stated. My prayers go to His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, our spiritual father, along all my pure & righteous mujahideen brothers. My prayers for them victory & honor, paradise for our martyrs, and their families patience and solace. For our wounded, healing and victory.

Lastly, this is Allah’s promise in his holy speech to every oppressed person: “By my glory and majesty, I will make you the victorious even after a while.” May the peace, blessings, and mercy of Allah be upon you.
